FANGO FASHION Profile: THEY'RE COMING TO DRESS YOU, BARBARA!

I can’t even begin to count the number of gore-gore girls I know who claim they love vintage clothes, yet are too afraid to wear them. They dish out a multitude of compliments when I put on one of my dresses, and go gaga over pictures in magazines. Yet they hide behind the excuse, “Oh, but I could never pull that look off.” Poppycock! Every female can pull off just about any style when she has the confidence.

Even zombie girls love that vintage style

Yes, vintage can be very girly. It strays away from the conventional view of sexy, is super feminine, and cannot really be considered casual. But I consider myself a tough chick. I have huge tattoos, wrestle, and can burp louder than most guys I know. Still, sometimes I like to throw on a poufy vintage dress and some cute retro heels and prance around like a girly girl. There, I admitted it! It feels good to embrace my feminine side. So if you dig the style, grow some cohones and go get yourself some outfits.

And there are always ways to spice up your look. An old vintage dress with a whole lot of black eye shadow and liner, combined with a messy up-do can give you a funky “Night of the Living Dead” look. Or, if you go for a baby-doll style outfit, some pigtails and really artsy liner can give off the aura of Carol Anne or Linda Blair. And the key to any look is accessorizing. Spiky jewelry can harden up your look, while chunky jewelry can combine modern with retro. Or you can stick to classic, detailed vintage jewelry, and mimic the amazing style of Ms. Dita Von Tease. The choices are unlimited.

Now, there are tons of vintage sites on the net, and if you live in a large city there are probably a whole lot of little shops as well. But many of them are filled with crap. Just because it is from the 50’s doesn’t make it cool, people! One of my favorite vintage places to shop on the net is Nuclear Wardrobe. The selection isn’t huge, more like very limited, but I can often find some cute rarities. Right now they have several dresses to die for, and there is an awesome satin-like letter-style jacket that is just waiting to be bought (hurry up, because that buyer may be me!) They also have cute record style purses I have been eyeing. There is some vintage lingerie posted, but quite honestly, it is the type of lingerie that girls may find adorable while the men are left wondering, “um… is there something tinier underneath there?” And personally, I believe lingerie is meant to be provocative and alluring, not cutesy. But that’s just me. I usually go for fishnets, leather and spiked heels.

Nuclear Wardrobe is also holding a pin-up girl contest, so be sure to check out all the lovelies there. Or, if you are daring enough, enter yourself in! And be sure to post that info here so we can vote for you. That is, of course, if you are deserving of it! If not, we will just cast as many votes as possible against you, and then laugh secretly at your expense. ;)

Happy shopping!

  1. Hell yeah! I think I may enter myself in that contest too, and you better not laugh!
  2. i could not agree more. nothing like an outstanding vintage dress with jaw dropping makeup, shoes to kill and hair that had some serious time spent on it. add in some loverlee tattoos and a girl whos usually in jeans and a hoodie and you get something special!
