Exclusive grisly clips from indie shocker SAM HELL

The folks at Son of Jason Films sent FANGORIA a trio of exclusive clips from their new fright feature SAM HELL; you can see them below. The movie was directed by Michael Bayouth, who was also one of the producers and gives the company its name: He’s the offspring of Ted White, who played masked maniac Voorhees in FRIDAY THE 13TH: THE FINAL CHAPTER.

“In SAM HELL, a young man who runs a Halloween spooky house finds what he believes to be an old movie prop at a yard sale, and decides to work it into his chilling attraction,” Bayouth tells Fango. “The grotesque decayed head in a cage turns out to be the real remains of a deranged mass murderer who begins to possess Sean, making him continue his bloody killing spree. When Sean’s girlfriend Jill realizes what’s happening, she enlists a pair of paranormal ass-kickers to send Sam back to hell.”

Filmed in October 2005, SAM HELL was inspired by its shooting locales: a pair of working Los Angeles haunted houses, where Bayouth and company were able to take advantage of the present casts, atmosphere FX and over $200,000 worth of real movie props. “Working bass-ackwards,” the director says, “we crafted the film around the sets we had to work with instead of building to satisfy a script. I gotta admit, it was really fun figuring it all out with screenwriter Robert Clotworthy, and the movie took on a personality all its own because of it. This all, of course, stemmed from the fact that we had almost zero cash to work with. ‘Turn your negatives into your positives’ was the name of the game. If it worked as a set, it became a scene to support our story.

“The script was written in two weeks and cast the next day; the day after that, we began shooting nights,” he continues; the actors include Osa (LIVE EVIL) Wallender, Brian Graves and Keith Lewis. “Bugs in the script were worked out by the cast members and myself as we shot. Thank God someone read the script more than once.” When it came to postproduction, “Telepathy plays a big part in SAM HELL, and sound designer Mark Hailstrone masterfully created a sick audio track and a signature sound for the titular maniac.”

SAM HELL is currently available for distribution and is being shopped at the American Film Market in LA, along with a a couple of other Son of Jason projects. “We’ve also finished TAKE 22, a mocumentary about cinematically challenged filmmakers trying to make a courtroom drama starring Rick [EIGHT LEGGED FREAKS] Overton, Dave [SCTV] Thomas and Tom [APRIL FOOL’S DAY] Wilson. In addition, we’re shooting a teaser trailer for SNARL, a horror film that takes place during a massive traffic jam.” For more info on Son of Jason, check out its official website; SAM HELL’s site, with a trailer and more images and info, can be found here.

  1. I don't understand how anyone can say that sucked! It's fun, campy horror. Love the, "I've got some sewing to do!" line! in the first clip. And the hot chick in the second does a great job. Looking forward to seeing this little flick. Congrads to all indie filmmakers who make their films. It's an extremely difficult thing to do. When do we get to see this little gem? Totally looking forward to it!
  2. A wonderful low-budget horror flick! Well acted and directed, loads of gratuitous violence, teenage girls getting diced up for their promiscuity -- All the elements are here. Sam fu**ing Hell baby!
  3. I saw thia entire film and it was OK. Not great but it had its moments. I do not think the two clips above would have been the two I sent in to Fangoria to post on their site, as the project as a whole I thought was better than this. I agree, more time on the script would have made for a better project. Given time and budget, it is a B-.
  4. good lord that was horrible. maybe next time these "filmmakers" can spend more than two weeks writing their "movie film". even if they got $200,000 worth of movie props for free from their day job, i'd say someone still got ripped off. EPIC FAIL
