Frozen Plasma - MOMENTUM (Musick Review)

MOMENTUMContinuing with Metropolis Records' new releases set for July 7th is the trippy sagacious act Frozen Plasma.  Formed in 2005 by NamNamBulu (a name I had to double check, I am certainly not free of critics for stage names. ), Vassi Vallis, and former Diorama keyboardist Felix Marc, the act has only recently launched out with their lofty and enigmatic brand of beautiful Darkwave dance riffs.  The current incarnation steps up featuring the duo for Felix and Vassi.  While successful tour mates in their prior projects with bands like Combichrist and VNV Nation, the current incarnation of Frozen Plasma has largely garnered its name through hefty dance club play the world over.  Their first single “Warmonger” is still a club staple in Europe.

Psyche - UNTIL THE SHADOWS (Musick Review)

PsycheThe monolithic Goth, Darkwave, and Industrial record label Metropolis has yet again brought forth a new set of dark and titillating electronic horror music to captivate the music scene again.  The record label continues to garner major media attention by booking talented and undoubtedly hard working acts that continue to redefine the dark rock scene.  While not every act they sign is a fresh face, some are indeed experienced in Goth and Industrial music but still set the pace for a scene that has continued to thrive despite all attempts to marginalize it, water it down, or dismiss it out of hand.  Those of us who call it home have never really cared one way or the other; we do what we like, and as we please.

American Werewolves – THE LONELY ONES (Musick Review)

wolfman_iconI’ve reviewed a lot of frothing, disease-ridden acts over the last few months.  We've had Vampires, Zombies, and now the ranks of the Lycanthropy-infected  are ready to take a clawed-ripped chunk out of the Horror Punk scene for themselves.  Cleveland's American Werewolves were formed in 1998 by Trevor Moment and the first full line up was ratified in 2003.  One of the few Non-Northwest acts signed by the Washington-based Robot Monster records,  this band rips and rends with their latest release THE LONELY ONES.

Angelspit – BLACK KINGDOM RED KINGDOM (MUSICK REVIEW).

ANGELSPITFew acts conjure images as frighteningly sexy as the Australian act Angelspit.  They positively gush, drip and spew Sex and Venom in immeasurable volumes.

Formed in 2004, the riotous duo of Zoog and Destroyx have blown the doors off the dark rock scene with frighteningly garish and beautiful stage costuming along with punishing powerful and seductive beats.  The band touts their music as “the beat that will make you sin”.  Their music has been featured at all of top Gothic Rock festivals the world over including Wave Gotik Treffen in Germany and the Netherlands Summer of Darkness festival.  After the success of their album KRANKHAUS, Angelspit followed-up with the highly-anticipated BLOOD DEATH IVORY, a powerfully horrific look at the darker side of conservative politics, commercialism, and media sexualization.

Ninth House – REALIZE AND IT’S GONE (Musick Review)

NINTH HOUSE I previously had the pleasure to present to you, the FANGORIA MUSICK readership, the beautifully haunting sounds of Mark Sinnis (see review here) and his eerie mix of Goth and Country dubbed “Cemetery and Western”.  His soul-filled mix of genres bends lyrical and acoustic guitar styles into a fine eerie sound that seduces and raises hackles in equal measure. Here in we present the formal review of Mark Sinnis’s band Ninth House, a Gothic and Punk inspired take on pure Americana featuring Mark’s haunting croon.
