Greeting and introductions...

Greetings from the cold, frozen, Pacific Northwest.

My pen name is Doctor Raven and this will be my introductory (and self-aggrandizing) blog on Fangoria Musick. I’ve been involved in the Northwest Gothic rock scene in Oregon for the better part of seventeen years. For the last five years, I’ve devoted a great deal of time promoting my tenebrous subculture through my journalistic endeavors online beginning with the online 'zine THE UNSCENE ZINE as published by The First Church of the Living Dead. Working with the Gothic Rock church online, my career as a Goth writer started with my first interview featuring Goth rock writer, musician, toy designer and artist Voltaire. A man who I continue to credit and thank regularly for giving me my first professional break in the Gothic rock scene.

After several years of hard work I’ve now been featured in several magazines including but not limited to DROP DEAD, MORBID OUTLOOK , AUTOMATA and MOVEMENT, as well as the webzines THE ART OF BREATHING, THE UNSCENE ZINE  and THE MICK (Mick Mercer’s online magazine) amid a host of others. It’s my continued goal to provide coverage and press for all acts within the Gothic rock subculture, whether they be RomantiGoth, EBM, Darkwave, Deathrock, Horror Punk, Psychobilly, Industrial, or otherwise.

It’s my belief that the Gothic rock scene survives because its tribe members strive to keep it alive through DIY (Do It Yourself) projects. Whether that’s fashion, art, music, poetry, performance art, or some other form of expression. my DIY project is this- keeping the scene alive by reporting it. When not working on interviewing hot dark rock acts or reviewing CD’s, I’m working with my fiancée in running a Pet Bug rescue center for non-native invertebrates to keep them from being released into the environment or destroyed from neglect. Even tarantulas need a loving home. Arachnoculture is a huge part of my life and nothing says spooky like a pretty tarantula on your arm.

So now you’ve gotten to know a little bit about me and my ego. Be sure to check back as I'll be reporting on the latest and hottest dark rock acts from all over the country and around the world for your enjoyment.
